The National Youth Organizer of the opposition New Patriotic Party, Sammy Awuku, has been elected Vice Chairman of the youth wing of the International Young Democrat Union (IYDU), a global alliance of centre-right political youth organisations united by a common desire for greater freedom.

At an event held in Brazil from August 3 to 6, the IYDU member Parties re-elected the young Ghanaian Politician for a second time after last year’s elections in London.

Among a number of topics discussed, the group also spoke to the issue of human rights abuses in some Latin American countries, especially Venezuela.

Bankrolled by the Westminster Foundation for Democracy in The UK, it is headquartered in Oslo, Norway. It was established in 1981, two years before its parent organisation, the International Democrat Union (IDU), was re-established. The IYDU has grown from 14 members to 127, from more than 81 different nations.

The NPP as a party belongs to the mother Union, which once had Peter Mac Manu as Vice.

Its membership is diverse, attracting young leaders from Asia, North America, South America, Europe, Australia.

Every year, the IYDU hosts a number of events around the world. Its events include a Freedom Forum in the middle of the year, a Study Trip, and a Council Meeting held towards the end/start of a calendar year.

Ghana Kasapafmonline.com understands, is likely to host the group’s 2016 Freedom Forum meeting in February.
