Political analyst Nana Piesie Anto has described the number of people who have expressed interest in being elected as president as disgusting.
He said it has become so cheap that every individual is contesting to be elected as president.
He asserted that some are not interested in the contest or the election but are in the business aspect of the contest.
The qualification criteria for contesting an election he lamented was so easy, and so anybody is jumping around to contest.
To help address this, he has proposed the introduction of an interview panel that will subject anyone to scrutiny and examine their level of competence, intelligence, educational background, among others.
“We need to set up a panel of interviewers who will scrutinise anyone who would want to be elected as president or an MP to examine their capacity and competence. We need to take that job away from the EC and get a panel of interviewers made up of eminent citizens to determine whether these candidates can indeed function as presidents or MPs.
The current system where everybody wants to be elected president is so alarming. In Ghana today, over 30 people want to be elected president. This is even disgusting and should not be entertained in our political system. There are those who do not contribute to any meaningful discussions; you don’t get to hear about them, and all of a sudden, when it is an election year, they show up to contest an election. This is terrible, and as Ghanaians, we should allow this to happen.”
