Afful Kofi Benteh, the Member of Parliament-elect (MP) for the Sefwi Wiawso constituency, has expressed immense gratitude to his supporters and pledged his dedication toward his constituents as he prepares for the upcoming inauguration.

Reflecting on his journey and the collaborative efforts that led to his electoral success in the December 7 Polls, Benteh said he was sincerely appreciative of the trust placed in him by the people.

Benteh, representing the National Democratic Congress (NDC), channeled his gratitude through the Ghana News Agency in an interview, following his resounding victory in the recent elections.

He garnered an impressive 33,656 votes, defeating his closest rival, Mr Festus Bumakama Agyapong of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), who received 24,926 votes, and Veronica Ababio, an independent candidate who secured 164 votes.

With this victory, Benteh successfully reclaimed the Sefwi Wiawso seat from the NPP, which was previously held by Dr Kwaku Afriyie.

“I have long been contemplating what message befits the people of Sefwi Wiawso for our respective roles leading to the peaceful elections,” Benteh said.

He noted that winning the election was not merely an achievement of the NDC or himself but a shared triumph resulting from the conscious decisions and efforts of the entire constituency.

He said he felt humbled for being chosen to represent his fellow citizens, staying, “I’m only favored to be part of the thousands of people who have caused this change and deeply honored by your trust and confidence.”

His acknowledgment extended to the encouragement he received from local chiefs, queen mothers, opinion leaders, and especially the youth, who chanted “KofiooooKofi” in support of his campaign.

The MP-elect paid tribute to his campaign teams, including the Western North Regional Chairman Big Aidoo, former MP, Paul Evans Aidoo, and the constituency Chairman ‘Si-Boy,’ as well as various advocacy groups within the constituency.

“Your dedication, hard work, and unwavering support have been the panacea of this feat,” Benteh stated, recognising the tireless efforts of his supporters who strategised with him, made phone calls, knocked on doors, and hosted events to convey their message.

In an inspiring nod to those who may have doubted him, he remarked, “To those of you who did not believe in me, yours was a challenge, a river to cross, and a test to pass for my promotion in the cause of Sefwi Wiawso Constituency; and I’m sincerely grateful to you.”

He emphasised that the foundation of his campaign was built on engaging with constituents and thanked all zonal and branch executives as well as polling agents for their invaluable support.

Benteh also acknowledged his competitors Bumakama, and Ababio, for their insightful perspectives that played a crucial role in shaping his campaign strategy.

Looking ahead, he reaffirmed his commitment to the youth, school children, and farmers in Sefwi Wiawso, promising to remain accessible and engaged.

“As your messenger, I call on you all to engage me with your ideas, and let’s work together to build the constituency we desire,” he urged.

He emphasised his role as both a Member of Parliament and a devoted advocate for the people assuring that “You will have an MP in me, but I will be your Messenger of People.”

With a focus on unity and future collaboration, Benteh is poised to lead Sefwi Wiawso into a new era of development and engagement, fostering a constituency that reflects the desires and hopes of its residents.
