The Convention People’s Party (CPP) has taken a swipe at Seth Terkper, the Finance Minister for the active role he played in securing the financial bailout for Ghana from the International Monetary Fund and accused him of being a “spin doctor” for the Bretton Wood institution.
In a press statement issued by the political committee of the CPP, the party said “Our Minister of Finance and Economic Planning (Seth Terkper) was the de facto public relations and spin doctor of the IMF with a responsibility to sell the projects to docile and gullible Ghanaians so that we did not behave like the Greeks. He craftily spun yarns of half-truths in the submission that we are only exercising our right as members of the IMF by asking first for “technical assistance” and as it turned out a financial one too.”
The party also observed that, “the concurrence of the NDC Government to the development policy measures of the IMF is the proof that the NDC is not an Nkrumaist party, but like the NPP, a right wing neo-liberal party with a development history of our country, but on the policy of structural adjustment that serves external financial interests.”
