In the wake of the confusion that has rocked the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) resulting in the indefinite suspension of its National Chairman, Paul Awentami Afoko, interesting developments are beginning to emerge.

Though the current executives have a four-year mandate which is not half spent, campaign posters of Former General Secretary of the NPP, Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie affectionately called Sir John, are all over social media.

The poster with portrait of Sir John designed with the party’s emblem is believed to be sponsored by a group calling itself Friends of Sir John which is canvassing for his reelection after he lost out to Kwabena Agyei Agyepong during the Tamale Congress.

Inscription on the poster reads: “Reelect Sir John. General Secretary “Project 2016” belongs to the grassroots. The grassroots leader you can approach and trust”.

It is however unclear if the group has received the backing of Sir John who for some time now has preferred to remain low-key in the raging strife that has rocked the party in recent times leading to a petition being filed against the General Secretary for his removal by some aggrieved members of the party.
