The Socialist Movement of Ghana (SMG) has described the decisive victory of the National Democratic Congress in the 2024 election as a reflection of Ghanaian's desire for transformative change.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, December 10, 2024, SMG congratulated the President-Elect, John Dramani Mahama, noting that his victory in the just-ended election indicates that Ghanaians are yearning for change.

“Your victory is undoubtedly an indication of the yearning of the people of Ghana for change from the political, economic, and social order responsible for our collective underdevelopment, misery, and exploitation by the predatory forces of neo-colonialism", it noted.

The SMG also expressed hope that the incoming administration would partner with progressive forces to reshape the country.

“It is our hope that you will work alongside progressive forces to move the country away from the path of neo-liberalism, which has entailed the denial of access to social services to the working people, the destruction of the state sector of the national economy, and a complete surrender to the imperialist military establishment,” he added.

The SMG further reiterated its commitment to the ideals of Africa’s national liberation movements and expressed its desire to collaborate with the new administration to advance the cause of continental unity under socialism.

“The SMG shares the vision of the founders of the national liberation movements in Africa for continental unity under the broad banner of socialism, and we look forward to working with your administration in furtherance of this lofty goal,” it noted.
