Anthony Abayifa Karbo, Deputy Communications Director of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has hit back at critics of the Nana Addo regarding his "The Real State of the Nation (SoTN)" address.
The New Patriotic Party held a forum to deliver an address at the Ghana College of Physicians and Surgeons to deliver what they call the real state of the nation.
The forum was in reaction to President John Dramani Mahama's State of the Nation Address last Thursday on the floor of Parliament.
Addressing the gathering, Nana Addo spoke extensively on corruption, economic, education and energy challenges that have characterized the Mahama administration.
Nana Addo's real SoTN has since raised concerns as some government functionaries and politicians have punched holes in the NPP Flagbearer's arguments.
Speaking on Peace FM's Kokrokoo, Anthony Karbo believe arguments from critics are merely borne out of hatred and jealousy for Nana Addo.
According to him, Nana Addo's speech touched on critical issues of the economy.
He explained that the President was very evasive in his address to the nation and ignored to touch on the state of the economy.
To him, the President came to Parliament and paraded people like "billboards" to show evidence of his achievements since coming into office.
“He ignored the discussion on the state of the economy in his three and half hour lecture…Is the economy in the hands of Ghanaians? Is the economy moving well? What’s our debt situation? Where is agriculture growing? How is the President dealing with corruption?”
Though the President disclosed his government's intervention in sectors such as education, energy, health, transport and so forth, Anthony Karbo was not moved because he opined that previous governments also rolled out certain projects to revamp those sectors.
He was of a strong view that the President should have addressed the crippling economy and not tout his achievements in the face of Ghanaians.
“It appears some people, out of hate, out of jealousy; how can a private man wake up on his own? Akufo-Addo is not a private man. Akufo-Addo is a property of the NPP. He talks on behalf of the NPP…Generally; it appears to me that the real State of the Nation boils down to the economy. For instance, do you have money? Can you foot your electricity bills? Can you pay your children’s school fee…That is the true state of the nation as far as I’m concerned," he said.
