A failed flag bearer-aspirant of the main opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mr Ekwow Spio-Garbrah, has closed his campaign office and collapsed all operations related to his presidential ambition.
In a statement, Mr Spio-Garbrah said his focus will be to aid former President John Dramani Mahama, who emerged as the flag bearer of the party, to win the 2020 polls.
Mr Mahama secured 213,487 votes representing 95.23 per cent of the total votes cast in the NDC presidential primary while the remaining six contenders shared the paltry 4 per cent among themselves.
“I would like to announce to the National Democratic Congress (NDC) fraternity and the good people of Ghana that following the recent election of John Dramani Mahama to lead the NDC, I have taken a decision to wrap up and close all operations at my campaign office located in the Airport Residential Area,” Mr Spio-Garbrah stated.
He also used the opportunity to thank all the people who supported his bid.
Below is Mr Spio-Garbrah’s full statement
Statement by Dr Ekwow Spio-Garbrah on the Closure of his Campaign Office and Operations
........
On behalf of the Spio-Garbrah for President 2020 Campaign team, the advisors, supporters, and all those who toiled and campaigned for me to become the flag bearer of the great National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the 2020 general elections, I would like to announce to the National Democratic Congress (NDC) fraternity and the good people of Ghana that following the recent election of John Dramani Mahama to lead the NDC, I have taken a decision to wrap up and close all operations at my campaign office located in the Airport Residential Area.
This decision is also to allow me to faithfully support our party’s elected candidate, H. E. John Mahama, to wrestle power from the Akufo-Addo-led government.
By this decision, all Social Media pages promoting the Spio-Garbrah “Forward agenda” and all groupings in the fold of the NDC that worked and campaigned for me are hereby directed to cease operations and abide by our collective decision to support Ex-President Mahama and the NDC agenda.
The battle ahead is by no means an easy one, and we must forge ahead in the spirit of unity, dedication and camaraderie - virtues espoused and championed by our great party. With oneness of purpose and dedication, we can achieve our goal.
I would also like to seize this opportunity to thank all those who supported my candidature from the campaign secretariat staff, my campaign team, to advisors, sponsors and financiers—many thanks for your hard work and efforts. You did a great job and my expectation is that you will put in the same hard work and efforts to help bring the NDC party back to power to rescue Ghanaians from the hardships imposed on all of us by the super-clueless Akufo-Addo government. Whoever thought ‘dumsor’ would be back with such a vengeance under NPP? Falling Cedi, high import costs, failing banks, messy school system, high unemployment and many more.
“NPP, One Term; Akufo-Addo, One Term; NDC, We are Coming Back!!”
Thank you all for your support.
Long Live NDC
Long Live Unity, Stability and Development
Long Live Ghana
