Statement Issued By 2009 Tein Executives And Friends Of Dr Ekwow Spio Garbrah
The above group wishes to express its worry and condemnation of recent happenings in the NDC.
It must be borne in mind that our beloved party- the great National Democratic Congress is/was built on the philosophy of Justice, Transparency, Probity, and Accountability, these principles are the core values of the party.
It is therefore shameful that people can no longer question the government on its own core values and principles.
The recent happenings go to confirm that, our great party has lost focus and direction and are unable to control internal wrangling. Instead of channeling our energies towards our opponent and repel the numerous lies peddled by some folks with the aim of dividing our party and forging unity, we focused so much on destroying each other as party member. Our hearts bleed when all these insults are not directed to our opponents but to the founder and hard working members of the party who have worked tirelessly to bring the party this far.
It is in this light that, we want to state that to avoid too much bloodletting from pitching the camps of former President Rawlings and his wife Nana Konadu Rawlings against Prof. Atta Mills, it may be best to consider a consensus candidate that is close enough to both camps and who the majority of NDC ordinary members can support for 2012. For us the youth in Upper and Northern regions, Dr. Ekow Spio- Garbrah who is intellectually tested both within Ghana and abroad, is a unifier and the man with charisma to attract floating voters and not only core party members. He understands ordinary people in the Party. He can also deal with important personalities abroad. He has worked for banks, is a farmer, former teacher, a former ambassador and has done many other jobs. He understands how to manage a government and civil servants. Also important is the fact that he hails from Central Region which will be angry and disappointed if the Rawlings family replaces their favourite son Mills with an Ashanti woman.
So let there be peace in NDC. We wish President Mills had listened to the advice of former President Rawlings on how to manage NDC. The Mills Led Government should also have a listening ear to the concerns raised by our grassroot supporters all across the country. There is growing concern that our foot soldiers, cadres and the millions of our supporters and sympathizers who brought the NDC to power have been relegated and forgotten.
It is fundamental for the truth to be told. We need to know if it is true that our top officials including His Excellency the President only listen to a few advisers who don’t tell him the truth and are not close to the grassroot supporters who do not fundamentally understand the tenets and core principles on which our great party was founded and build.
If we need change, fine. Let’s have change. But let’s have change that Ghanaians will vote for. We think Dr Spio-Garbrah is the right man for NDC today.
Long live NDC. Long live Presdient Rawlings and President Mills
Long live Dr. Ekwow Spio Garbrah.
Thank you
