Step up the fight to bring down armed robbery - Danso

A former Ashanti Regional Chairman of the Convention Peoples Party, Mr Samuel Kwabena Danso, has appealed to the Government to step up the fight to bring down the growing incidence of armed robbery in the country.

He said it should do everything to stop the miscreants from operating with impunity and terrorizing the people adding that the security agencies should be adequately equipped to decisively deal with the criminals to enable the law-abiding to go about their daily business without fear.

Mr Danso who made the appeal through the Ghana News Agency (GNA), said it is deeply troubling hearing reports of recent reported robberies on the highways, schools, homes and commercial centres.

He said this tends to create panic and sense of insecurity and could become a big disincentive to foreign investments.

He called for intensification of day and night military/police joint patrols to arrest and to bring to justice the offenders.

Mr Danso said this should be combined with regular swoops on the hideouts and slums that provide sanctuary for the criminals.

He said it was equally important that Government needed to create job opportunities for the youth to prevent them from being driven into such crimes.
