'Stephen Akwetey deserves Regional Chairman'

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) TEIN group of Greater Accra has urged all well-meaning party members and sympathizers to support the regional chairmanship bid of Mr. Stephen Akwetey for a more proactive and goal-oriented leadership.

A statement signed by Mr Mohammed Ayariga and Mr Daniel Alarbi, the Group’s Secretary and Director of Communications respectively, and copied to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) indicated that the party needed a committed and hardworking chairman whose sole vision and objective was to make the NDC a formidable force in the region.

It stated that as the party prepared to go to the polls in October to elect regional and national executives it should be remembered that Greater Accra, due to the diverse nature of its inhabitants, had a good number of swing voters and therefore remained a very crucial decider for Ghana's presidential elections.

“It is therefore critical for the NDC's chances in the 2016 election to elect a regional chairman that better understands the social democratic principles of the party in order to ignite and revitalize enthusiasm amongst the party followers and sympathizers in the region” the statement said.

It said having contributed to the formation of the NDC in 1992, and later serving as party Chairman for Krowor constituency, Mr. Stephen Akwetey was well versed in the core values of probity, accountability and social democracy, which constituted the benchmarks of the NDC.

“His commitment to the course of the NDC in the region is second to none and he has always identified with the various party branches and interest groups even before declaring his intentions to lead the party in the region”, the statement said.

It contended that the current leadership of the NDC in the region had so far failed to make any meaningful strides in growing the membership base to win the Region for the party come 2016.

“Mr. Stephen Akwetey has proven himself well with the various entrepreneurial ventures he has championed in the region to create job opportunities for the youth, including the Hill Side Village project which is giving jobs, and the launch of the Health and Education Fund for Greater Accra NDC”, it stated.
