The leadership of the ruling National Democratic Congres (NDC) has warned various appointees of government, party functionaries and heads of Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Assemblies(MMDA’s) to be proactive in the NDC campaign towards the 2016 election, lest have themselves to blamed in the repercussions thereof.
“A lot of them are doing a fantastic job on the grounds, but there are some that are not opening up to the party at all. And specifically in the Ashanti region, because NPP MPs are more than NDC MPs, and what normally happens is that you mostly have this DCE’s and MCE’s sitting aloof and allowing the NPP MPs take credit for projects that they have no knowledge of how it came about. What we’re saying is that we will not countenance such behaviours while we prepare ahead of our solid campaign,” Deputy General Secretary of the NDC, Koku Anyidoho told host Fiifi Banson on Anopa Kasapa on Kasapa 102.3 FM.
He said such persons given various appointments have a strategic duty to aid in the NDC campaign towards the November polls, saying it expects all hands on deck to work assiduously in retaining power in the upcoming elections.
According to him, especially MMDCE’s and government functionaries at the constituencies who will sit aloof and shrug off the needed collaboration to bring the good works of President Mahama to light will be dealt with.
“Nobody is after anybody’s job, all we’re saying is that let us all support the President to win this election one-touch. What we won’t allow is to let the good works of President Mahama to go waste and allow Akufo-Addo to come and take the glory for what we’ve toiled for over the years. We’re very serious on the grounds; we have been in the trenches; some of us have been slapped by angry supporters; some of us have to kneel down and beg; and others also have had to lie on the ground, not that it worries us-uneasy is the head that wears the crown and we are ready to do that. But while we’re doing that to mend the problems on the grounds, if who ever be ye MCE, DCE, government appointee,CEO and so forth misbehave we’ll crack the whip,” Anyidoho cautioned.
He said everybody working under President Mahama’s government must mirror his traits, hardwork and admirable persona which he claimed will ultimately position the party to achieve its goals in the crucial elections.
“We need to re-engage;the NDC is a grassroot party and a mass party. For that matter we need to get back to the trenches, the cadre days, the revolutionary days and be with the people and connect to them- once that happens we are winning the elections hands down,” he said.
