‘Swallow your pride and continue the Mahama projects’ – NDC to NPP

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Eastern Region has charged the Akufo-Addo-led government to swallow its pride and go beyond its shameful behavior to continue projects started under the John Mahama government.

Approximately 200 projects started under the John Mahama administration in the region, he said, have been abandoned by Akufo-Addo took the reigns of government.

He lamented that the projects have reached advanced stages of completion before the NPP came to power and yet they have been left to rot.

They include hospitals, clinics, CHIPS compounds, Community Day SHS and other school projects, roads, rural electrification projects among others.

NDC Eastern Region Communications Officer, Comrade Darlas Ampomah Williams, disclosed this at a press conference last Saturday.

He noted that the most unfortunate narrative of the insensitivity of President Akufo-Addo on the subject is the neglect of the Kwahu East District Hospital at Abetifi.

This project, he said, is so dear to the hearts of Nananom and the people of Kwahuman because there are only two functional district hospitals serving the five Kwahu districts.

“This Mahama Abetifi Hospital, which was also designated to be a referral hospital for the entire enclave has been abandoned since Nana Akufo-Addo assumed office.”

“The structure has started deteriorating and the place is gradually becoming a comfortable haven for reptiles and other dangerous animals,” he said.

He urged the President to overcome the embarrassment that he brought upon himself and do the needful by continuing the Mahama projects before 2020.

STATEMENT READ BY THE EASTERN REGIONAL COMMUNICATIONS OFFICER OF THE NATIONAL DEMOCRATIC CONGRESS AT A PRESS CONFERENCE HELD ON SUNDAY OCTOBER 13, 2019 ON JOHN MAHAMA PROJECTS ABANDONED BY AKUFO-ADDO.

Ladies and Gentlemen of the press, we welcome you to this brief conference to introduce you to a series of actions to be taken by the NDC in the Eastern Region and to draw public attention to the cluelessness of the President Akufo Addo administration.

We are here to perform a simple exercise: to demonstrate to you the wickedness of the Akufo Addo Government and the impact of his insensitivity on the development of the Region.

Ladies and Gentlemen, you will acknowledge that a country’s socio-economic development largely depends on its social infrastructure upon which current and future social programmes depend. Consequently, His Excellency John Dramani Mahama and the NDC embarked heavily on critical social infrastructure whiles in office; with verifiable evidence littered all over the Region.

Meanwhile, the Clearing Agent, Nana Akufo Addo, has been insensitive to the needs of the people in the Region, by denying them of their rights to infrastructure.

Since he assumed office, he has not been able to complete a single project due to his impotent leadership style and crass incompetence; and to add salt to injury, he has refused to complete projects started by the previous NDC administration.

He continuously boasts of fulfilling his free SHS promise, however, we all know the problems that have confronted the haphazardly implemented policy.

In addressing the issue of accessibility in any educational structure, the provision of Infrastructure is very key. Only God knows for example when second-year students on the gold track will be going back to school owing to inadequate infrastructure to accommodate them.

Because he is visionless, Nana Akuffo-Addo does not even see the need to complete the abandoned projects to help solve these problems.

Ladies and Gentlemen, there are about 200 projects that were left at various advanced stages of completion after the first term of His Excellency John Mahama, which have been left to rot by this cruel, insensitive and clueless Akufo-Addo Government.

These projects include Hospitals, Clinics, CHIP Compounds, Community Day SHS, other School projects, Roads, Rural Electrification Projects and many others.

We can say that except for tribal and familiar considerations motivating the continuation of the Kyebi town roads, all these projects we will demonstrate to you have been left to rot.

These include Nkawkaw to Abirem to Kade roads, Suhum to Asamankese to Oda roads and others. Most of these roads have been seized by armed robbers who attack commuters, especially at night.

Ladies and Gentlemen, through the vision of His Excellency John Dramani Mahama, Eastern Region benefited from the Community Day SHS project.

Indeed, by December 2016, Nyanoa-Kwaobaa in the Upper West Akim District, Kwahu Fodoa in the Kwahu West Municipality, Maame Krobo in the Kwahu Afram Plains South District, Akyem Takorasi in the Denkyembour District, Anum Apapam in the Ayensuano District and Mem-Chemfre in the Kwahu Afram Plains North District Community Day Senior High Schools were fully completed.

All these schools have subsequently been populated with students. Sadly, the remaining Community Day Schools at Osenase in the West Akim Municipality, Oborpah in the Lower Manya Krobo Municipality, Apesua in the Yilo Krobo Municipality, Sekesua in the Upper Manya Krobo District among others which were all at advanced completion stages, have all been abandoned by this government.

The most unfortunate narrative, Ladies and Gentlemen, is the current state of the Kwahu East District Hospital located at Abetifi.

This is a project so dear to the hearts of Nananom and the people of Kwahuman; as currently, there are only two functional district hospitals serving the five Kwahu districts.

This Mahama’s Abetifi Hospital which was also designated to be a referral hospital for the entire enclave has been abandoned since Nana Akufo-Addo assumed office.

The structures have started deteriorating and the place is gradually becoming a comfortable haven for reptiles and other dangerous animals. The current deteriorating state would be shown to you. These and many other health infrastructures have been abandoned by Nana Akufo-Addo.

Ladies and Gentlemen, His Excellency John Mahama completed a number of rural electrification projects in the region.

There are hundreds of communities that were supposed to benefit from John Mahama’s electrification project but have lost the opportunity of access to electricity just because Akufo-Addo became President. Again, mention is made of the massive investments in the area of water supply. Through the commitment of His Excellency John Mahama, we can point to the Kpong, Kwahu, Kyebi, Suhum, Osenase, Oda and other Water projects in the Eastern Region.

Ladies and gentlemen, we have a tall list of other abandoned projects in the Region which is attached to this statement for your verification.

It is the sad reality that, Nana Akufo-Addo whose incompetence is legendary has not shown commitment to honouring the social contract he signed with the people and as a matter of fact, has failed to complete projects commenced by former President Mahama.

Is it not insulting that the NPP will deceive the people in the Region by carrying heavy equipment, sometimes a few hours, ahead of the President’s shambolic tour of the region, just to create an impression of working on some of these projects?

Ladies and Gentlemen, no worries, God willing when the NDC led by the visionary and honest John Mahama assumes office in 2021, all these projects shall be brought to completion to relief the people of the suffering and inconvenience they have to endure under this insensitive and clueless Akufo-Addo government.

We are calling on the President to as a matter of Urgency, put aside his shame, and continue this abandoned John Mahama projects to serve the purpose they were meant for before he leaves office on January 6, 2021.

We thank you for your time!

Signed

Comrade Darlas Ampomah Williams

Eastern Regional Communications Officer, NDC
