The Tema East Constituency members of the New Patriotic Party have appealed to President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to reward Mr Benjamin Ashitey by giving him an appointment for his royalty and resourcefulness.
There is a common adage that, ‘one good turn deserves another,” and so some of us in the Tema East branch of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) are making this clarion call for President Akufo-Addo to reward this man that has kept faith with the party.”
Mr Ismaila Alhassan, Director of Research for Tema East NPP Constituency made this call during a news Conference at Tema New Town.
Benjamin Ashitey, a prominent NPP loyalist who spent his time, money and energy galvanising support for the party when the elephants were in the trenches was the focal point of a press conference held at Tema New Town.
Receiving applause for the call at the News Conference, members of the party pointed out that Ben Ashitey was a pillar in the party during the tough days in opposition and had spent his own resources to help party members in dire straits whenever he was approached for help.
Mr Ashitey, who unsuccessfully challenged the current MP for Tema East, Titus Glover, during the party’s Parliamentary primary, she said, had also been pivotal in galvanising support for the NPP during the 2016 election.
Mr Alhassan also used the platform to call on the national leadership of the party to impress on the Constituency Chairman of the party, Nene Ofoe Teye, to release party registers to Constituency Executives.
He said the NPP was supposed to be registering new members in the Constituency, but for some unknown reasons, the party Chairman was refusing to release the registers to the Constituency executives to enable them register new members.
Mr Joseph Ashitey Larteh Gallas, Tema East Sub Metro Chairman, called for peaceful co-existence among members to strengthen the party for future elections.
Mr Gallas who is also a Member of the NPP Council of Elders in Tema East recounted how Mr Ashitey used his personal residence to convene meetings with party people and a compensation in that direction was apt.
He called on all to emulate his shining example but urged President Akufo-Addo to give Ben Ashitey a place in government as such a gesture would be a source of great motivation to people sacrificing for the party in the constituency.
Mr Joe Martey, the NPP’s Constituency Organiser for Tema East and a leading member of the party, also added their voice to the calls for the President to honor Ben Ashitey’s sacrifices for the party with an appointment.
He urged the national executives to call on the Tema East NPP Chairman to order and cause the registers to be released as soon as practicable to enable the party register new members.
Elizabeth Kokofu, Polling Station Executive of the NPP said once government had the opportunity to appoint people from other parties, it was only fair that Mr Ben Ashitey was also given an appointment.
Osmanu Ashitey, Deputy Constituency Organiser for Tema East, Osmanu Ashitey said an appointment of Ben Ashitey by the President will be a good source of encouragement for all party loyalists who keep sacrificing for the party.
