January 28, 2009 The Liberal Democrats Forum (ldf) congratulates the newly sworn – in president of the republic of Ghana H. E. John Evans Atta Mills on his election to the highest office of the land.
The Forum also wishes to praise all Ghanaians for the high level of comportment that eventually led to the peaceful elections. The professionalism exhibited by the security services went a long way in ensuring an incident – free election. We appreciate the political maturity displayed by the presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo by graciously conceding defeat and congratulating the winner president Atta Mills which has contributed immensely to the peace that is currently prevailing in our country. The Electoral Commission that has received international commendation over the years once again proved to the whole world why Ghana is a beacon of hope for African democracy. Nonetheless, we would like to bring to the attention of the EC and other stakeholders, certain concerns raised by both NDC and NPP regarding some electoral irregularities. Therefore, we urge the EC to seriously address those concerns to avoid their reoccurrence in future elections. This, we believe, when done will eventually ensure a more credible electoral process. Although the media contributed immeasurably to the electoral process, we will expect them to be more circumspect in their reportage in future.
Ldf will continue to play its watchdog role efficiently so as to ensure that democracy is entrenched in our country.
