The Flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama, has said that the next NDC government will be open to public scrutiny.

According to John Mahama, those in government positions are there to serve the state, hence, they must be ready to answer for their actions.

Speaking during a town hall meeting on August 12, 2024, he stressed the need for public officials to be accountable to the public, as reported by myjoyonline.com.

He explained that any public officeholder who abuses their position should expect to be held accountable.

John Mahama pointed out that individuals seeking to enrich themselves should look to the private sector instead of entering public office.

“If people want to come into government and make money then we can’t help you; go into the private sector, we will help you set up a cassava processing plant. Go and process cassava, employ young people, don’t come and take public office.

“Once you take public office, you must be prepared to be held to account,” he said.

He also acknowledged the challenges of prosecuting members of his own party or government but said it was necessary to do so as part of efforts to ensure accountability and combat corruption.
