National Youth Organizer for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Salam Mustapha, has observed that officials of the Ghana Police Service treated Democracy Hub protesters with kid gloves for their unlawful acts.
During an interview on Okay FM, Salam Mustapha lamented how the protesters destroyed the paraphernalia of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) during their protest against galamsey, as well as blocking the entrance to the 37 Military Hospital, preventing patients from accessing healthcare.
The NPP Youth Leader added that some of their party members wanted to storm the protest grounds and bundle the protesters to the police station for their unlawful acts but were restrained.
“Party members are very angry because when you look at some of the comments on WhatsApp platforms and social media pages, people are angry. It is worrying. The police were at the demonstration and saw everything. I believe that the police were lenient.”
“They’ve allowed this to happen. They allowed these protesters to destroy our properties and campaign banners. Our party youth also decided to go there to stop them from destroying our paraphernalia and do a citizen's arrest for destroying our properties. We would have arrested and carried them like chickens to the police; that was our intention,” he disclosed.
