Embattled parliamentary candidate for the Walewale constituency of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Tia Kabiru, has responded to the Tamale High Court's ruling that ordered a rerun of the primary election.

According to reports, the full judgment is set to be delivered on September 12, 2024, as announced by the presiding judge on Monday, September 2.

In reaction to the court's decision, Tia Kabiru took to his Facebook page, saying “Ah well” along with the hashtag #PrioritisingThePeople.

Tensions escalated further when a court injunction was issued, barring Tia Kabiru from presenting himself as the elected parliamentary candidate for the NPP in Walewale.

GhanaWeb has learned that the court has ruled for the primary election, which was marred by chaos, to be re-run.

The general elections of 2024, scheduled for December 7, are exactly 96 days away.

With barely a week left for parliamentary and presidential aspirants to file their nominations, this ruling adds pressure on the candidates in the Walewale constituency.

Notably, the constituency is the home base of Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the NPP's flagbearer.

The tensions in the Walewale constituency have been high since late January 2024, when the incumbent Member of Parliament, Lariba Zuweira Abudu, was narrowly defeated by Tia Kabiru, a special adviser to Dr. Bawumia, by just seven votes.
