There is heavy coordinated security presence at the Trade Fair Centre in Accra as the ruling New Patriotic Party’s Annual Delegates Conference is underway.

To gain access to the Trade Fair centre, one is likely to go through at least four security checkpoints, where a thorough body scan, as well as, a search through items such as bags and carry-ons is conducted.

As part of the stringent security measures, valid accreditation is required before entry into the event grounds. Aside this, dozens of heavily armed officers from the Ghana Army and the Ghana Police Service are also stationed at vantage points of the venue, as well as National security operatives.

Meanwhile, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, to his credit, arrived at the venue a few minutes after 9:00 am ahead of the Vice President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, National Chairman of the party, Freddie Blay, Chief of Staff, Frema Opare and other officials.

With the theme; “We Have Performed Better; 4 for More To Do More,” the 2019 NPP Annual Delegates Conference is set to be the launchpad for the party’s campaign towards retaining power in the 2020 general elections.

Even though the party is yet to officially confirm a candidate for 2020, it is clear President Akufo-Addo will be seeking a second term on the party’s ticket come 2020, as he has indicated on several platforms his intentions to rule Ghana for another for years.

A rally is scheduled to take place at the Trade Fair Centre, later in the day after the conference.
