Turf War in NDC

…As Baba Kamara Gains Root As Engine For Prez. Mahama’s Campaign

Even before the dust settles on the jarring environment created by happenings in the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC), signals are emerging of a rummage for another spoils of war by some element within the NDC, over how Baba Kamara, one of the high profile diplomats in government is suddenly making inroads as an oil; greasing president Mahama’s campaign engine.

Since the demise of president Mills, insiders say the Ghana envoy to Nigeria, with concurrent affiliation to the Republics of Cameroon, Chad, and Sao Tome & Principe, has virtually vacated his post and is taking tentative steps to gain recognition in the castle as a financier to the president’s campaign.

“What they forget is that the man has a lot of baggage’s behind him. Besides, he is not what he carries himself as. He can only raise funds from Nigeria but nowhere else so why do you allow such a person into the chamber of your campaign’’, one of the campaign members who pleaded anonymity quizzed.

His inclusion in the Mahama campaign has sent many confused as to what the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) would do should they get wind of Baba Kamara latest post in the President’s campaign team.

Influence peddlers at the seat of governance, including Martey Newman, the chief of staff, Baffo Bonnie, the president’s special advisor on politics are said to be angry over the fact that the man allegedly fingered in a number of high profile blunders is ordering everybody at the castle around, in the name of being a Northerner.

Baba Kamara, a former Deputy National Treasurer of the NDC, this paper gathered, is also lobbying hard to be considered for the post of chief of staff should Mahama win the December polls, hence he vacating his post to carry himself as a bankroller of the party.

Another camp in the castle is arguing that the man should be left alone to secure funds for the campaign team saying, “Till date nothing has come out of the Maybey & Johnson scandal. It is an indication that the man did no wrong so why worry him with this case? Also, he is respected in the Islamic community because of his generosity and affability so I think he should be left alone”.

They went on that, “whether they like it or not that man is now at the helm of affairs and there is nothing they can do about it”.

Meanwhile, attempts to reach Baba Kamara, to respond to especially, the allegation that he had virtually vacated his post as the Ghana envoy to Africa’s most populous State, yesterday hit on a snag, as he neither answered his phone nor replied to the text message this paper sent him.

Baba Kamara holds Certificate in Administration Management (1986), Certificate in Senior Management and Development (1987) Certificate in Good Corporate Governance (2005) and Executive Masters Degree in Governance and Leadership (2001) all of the Ghana Institute of Management & Public Administration (GIMPA). He also holds Certificate in International Relations from the University of East Angilia, Norwich, England in 2003. He is the Founder/Chief Executive Officer of Kamara Limited (1981-2009), African Trans Bridging Limited (2003-2009). He is presently Ghana’s High Commissioner/Ambassador to the Federal Republic of Nigeria with concurrent accreditation to the Republic of Cameroon, Republic of Chad and Sao Tome & Principe (2009 to date). He is Ghana’s Permanent Representative to the ECOWAS Commission (2009 to date).
