Two officers of the Electoral Commission have reportedly collapsed at the Okaikwei North coalition centre in the Greater Accra region.
According to Joy News reporter James Eshun, they suffered from pepper spray released by the police on agitated voters. Minutes after entering the collation centre, they began to react to the pepper spray, which led to their collapse.
βThe police sprayed some agitated voters with pepper spray, which affected some of the EC officials. They were able to enter, and after a few minutes, they started reacting to the pepper spray,β he reported.
Counting and results declaration are underway following the closure of polls at 5pm across most of the polling centres in the country.
The 2024 elections took place across 276 constituencies in the country, with the process being largely peaceful.
Pockets of violence have, however, been recorded, with one person confirmed dead in the Tolon Constituency in the Northern Region.
The EC has meanwhile urged Ghanaians and political parties to exercise patience as they execute their mandate of delivering a successful election.
