Mr. Iddrisu Andani Mu-Azu, Assistant Registrar of the University for Development Studies, has filed to contest the parliamentary primaries of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) for the Sagnarigu North Constituency.
Mr. Andani Mu-Azu, 40 years, holds a Master of Arts Degree in Library Studies from the University of Ghana.
He is contesting the primaries alongside a yet to be confirmed number of aspirants, which included Hajia Hawawu Boya, Deputy Minister for Women and Children’s Affairs and Mr. A.B.A Fuseini of the Daily Graphic.
The NDC has scheduled August 5, 2012, to hold the primaries for the constituency, which was carved out of the Tamale North Constituency to become one of the 45 constituencies that the Electoral Commission had recently created.
Filing of nominations for the parliamentary primaries by the NDC for the constituency ends on July 30, 2012.
Submitting his forms to the constituency executives at the Sagnarigu office on Saturday, Mr. Andani Mu-Azu said his motivation for joining the race was to promote and champion the interest of the constituents given that it was a new constituency.
He said the new constituency presented new hope and opportunities for the people hence the need for someone who had the track record to deliver to represent them in the Legislature.
Mr. Andani Mu-Azu, who has been helping the youth to engage in meaningful ventures as well as securing employment for some of them, promised to do more to accelerate the development of the constituency when given the nod.
He said through his influence, a hospital was being built for the constituency to cater for the health needs of the people and appealed to the delegates to support his candidature to ensure accelerated development of the constituency.
He consoled the family of the late President, John Evans Atta Mills and members of the NDC for the loss and called on them to let the demise of the late President be a unifier ahead of the December elections.
Mr. Mohammed Abu-Rahman, Sagnarigu North Constituency Secretary of the NDC who received the forms, assured aspirants of the neutrality of the executives to ensure the sanctity of the process and the unity of the party.
The Sagnarigu North Constituency, near Tamale, comprises 12 electoral areas with 48 polling stations.**
