Winneba(C/R), January 20, GNA - The University of Education, Winneba branch of the Tertiary Education Institution Network (TEIN), of the National Democratic Congress,(NDC) has congratulated the President, Prof. John Evans Atta Mills on his election to the highest office of the land.
In a congratulatory statement jointly signed by the Patron of the branch, Mr. Samuel Richard Ziggah and the President, Mr. Remus Kofi Zoryiku, and copied to the GNA in Winneba, they also congratulated Mr. John Dramani Mahama on his election as Vice-President of Ghana. TEIN also thanked former President Jerry John Rawlings and his family for their patience and for bringing the NDC this far. The statement appealed to President Atta Mills to "cancel the study leave quota system" which afforded a few teachers the opportunity to further their education at the tertiary level.
The previous administration introduced the quota. It said under the system graduate teachers from the University of Education, Winneba, who entered the university without study leave were normally denied employment after their course unless they applied to the Ghana Education Service. The statement suggested that all teachers wishing to further their education must be covered by the study leave and be employed by the Ghana Education Service (GES) on completion of their course. According to TEIN, conditions of service for teachers should also be 'looked into to enable teachers' give of their best.
