The Nasara Youth Coalition of the New Patriotic Party in the Zabzugu Tatale Constituency has been following with concern the misconduct of some National Democratic Congress (NDC) youth in the constituency for the past two weeks. We wish to condemn such violent activities of the NDC youth and to call on the Zabzugu Tatale Constituency leadership of the party to call such persons to order as they seem to have taken the law into their own hands and this might not be healthy for the peace, unity and development of the district.
Last week a group of NDC supporters attacked the offices of the National Health Insurance Scheme to force the Scheme Manager to hand over the office to them and leave the district, this in our view was a way of protesting against the Manager’s refusal to give his official vehicle to them to go to Tamale for the swearing-in of the District Chief Executive, Abdul Wahab Umar.
The attack on the offices and the residence of the Scheme Manager seem to have been masterminded by the Constituency leadership of the NDC as it resulted in the suspension of the Scheme Manager from using the car without written permission to the District Chief Executive. The DCE has also fired revenue collectors of the Zabzugu Tatale District Assembly who are suspected to belong to the New Patriotic Party with plans in the pipeline to transfer teachers who are sympathizers of the NPP to the ‘interior villages’ and get ‘NDC teachers’ transferred to the district capital and other urban centers.
The District Chief Executive who should in the first place have condemned the attack went ahead to cease the official motorbike of one Mr Alidu Andani Adam,an officer of the Non Formal Education Division in the district, with the flimsy excuse that the said officer had openly made a statement condemning the attack by the NDC youth. We therefore call on the Leadership of the NDC to tame their supporters who have gone wild and have engaged in violent activities lately to make a show that they are above the laws of the country because their party is in power.
We also wish to remind the DCE that he should not see himself as the DCE for NDC as it might not in any way lend a hand in the development of a deprived district like the Zabzugu Tatale District that cannot eve be boastful of a motorable town road. We do not want to be tempted to believe that the youth have the full support of their leadership in these mischievous acts of vandalism. We are also not unaware of the malicious intentions of the DCE and his party executive to call for the laying off of all employees of the National Youth Employment Programme (NYEP) in the district so as to call for fresh applications from prospective applicants; we are aware that the exercise intends to drop employees who are suspected to be members of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) and make room for the engagement of NDC youth alone. This does not augur well for national cohesion and togetherness as it will be a way of creating the NDC’s so-called better Ghana for only their party members. We anyway would like to appeal to supporters of the NPP in the district and elsewhere in the country to remain calm and law abiding in the light of these provocations from the NDC and its youth.
Signed
