Agona Swedru, Sept 25, GNA - Mr Ishmael Kofi Turkson, a Swedru based legal practitioner, has called on the electorate not to vote for arrogant candidates in Tuesday's District Level Elections to ensure effective development.
He said, "it will be sad to vote for candidates who will not seek the welfare of the people and at same time create confusion and show disrespect, which can derail the decentralisation policy being pursued by the government".
Mr Turkson was speaking to the GNA at Agona Swedru in reaction to comments made by some incumbent Assembly members at Swedru. He noted that it was unfortunate that they saw other contestants as "enemies", adding that, "when this occur then the decentralisation policy would a mirage".
Mr Turkson called on the contestants to ensure peace and stability in their respective areas after the elections. In another development, Mr Kwame Amoah, Agona District Electoral Officer, has stated that all is set for the Tuesday elections. He said Electoral Officers and polling agents had been trained and expressed the hope that they would leave up to expectation to ensure a successful elections.
Mr Amoah said in all 160 Electoral Officials while 14 females out 135 candidates were contesting in the 49 areas with 26 incumbents, adding that, security personnel, vehicles and other logistics were ready.
He stated that people did not attach importance to the District level Election like Presidential and Parliamentary elections and urged them to participate to elect competent and hardworking candidates to represent them.
