The opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) has declared plans to stage a statewide protest march on September 17, 2024, should the Electoral Commission (EC) fail to fix anomalies it claims to have discovered in the voter registration before the December 7 general election.

NDC National Chairman Johnson Asiedu Nketia made the statement to the media on Monday afternoon, September 9, 2024, after he presented the party's flag bearer, John Dramani Mahama's presidential candidacy form.

He claimed to have found "several discrepancies" in the register.

Asiedu Nketiah stated that although the commission had given guarantees, no real action had been taken in response to the party's formal petition to the EC to address the problems.'

Mr. Nketia issued a warning, saying that if the EC is unable to settle the dispute, the integrity of the next elections may be seriously jeopardized.

"Is it possible for a district officer anywhere to transfer names of voters to places they didn’t choose? And they are saying it is possible. If it is possible, then we are not safe," he remarked.

In addition, he demanded a thorough assessment of the EC's IT infrastructure, mentioning that the NDC has contacted international development partners who are prepared to contribute funds for this kind of study.

"We want an independent audit of the system," he added.
