The running mate for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) for the 2024 election, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, has said it is forbidden for any true Muslim to vote for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) during the December 7 general elections.
Speaking at a rally in Damongo, the capital of West Gonja Municipal in the Savannah Region, on Thursday, November 7, 2024, Dr. Opoku Prempeh urged Muslims not to vote for the NDC because the party has demonstrated over the years that it hates them.
He cited the demolishing of two big mosques in Accra and Koforidua to back his assertion.
"Dr. Bawumia himself has rehabilitated 21 mosques. Now listen to the history of Ghana. The only political party that broke down mosques—the number one mosque in Accra is When they broke down the mosque in Accra, they called it Rawlings Park. That is NDC for you. NDC, they don't like Muslims. They only use Muslims for voting," the Member of Parliament for Manhia South stated.
He added, "When President Kufuor built the Jubilee House, when President Mills and Mahama came, they said the Jubilee House is near Nima. Who live in Nima, Zongo people? For 8 years, they never lived in Jubilee House because Jubilee House was near Zongo, and Zongo is Muslim. Meanwhile, they vote highest for NDC. That is why I say if you are a Muslim and you take your thumb and you go and vote instead for Samuel Abu Jinapor and Doctor Mahamudu Bawumia and you make a mistake and vote for NDC, it is Haram."
