In the aftermath of the 2024 general elections, the Electoral Commission (EC) has received widespread praise from local and international observers for conducting a free, fair, and credible electoral process.

Despite instances of violence that led to at least four deaths, a challenging post-election period, the recall of specific results, and disputed declarations in some constituencies, the country has been commended for the overall conduct of the polls.

Speaking to GhanaWeb on Monday, December 16, 2024, some Ghanaians commended the EC for its role in ensuring a generally smooth electoral process.

"I think the EC performed creditably, although there was a delay in declaring the final results. If the Chairperson of the EC is maintained, it would be great news," an individual remarked.

This sentiment was echoed by another who praised the Commission’s efforts in promoting transparency and fairness.

"The EC really did a great job. I also commend Bawumia for conceding defeat before the declaration of the final results. His concession helped calm tensions," she noted.

Others also stressed the need for continuity in the EC’s leadership, arguing that retaining experienced officials would sustain the integrity of the country's electoral processes in the next elections.

"The EC did very well. Even though there was panic and all that, she was able to calm everything down and declare the results. Although we learned that some polling stations lost their pink sheets—all those issues causing riots and all that—she managed to calm everything down and declare the results. It was peaceful.

I think she should be maintained. I, myself, don't believe in changing officials. When you leave, another government will change the officials. She has gained the experience now," he added.

Another also stated, "I think the EC should be maintained, depending on the way forward. If the managers of the country think there are some lapses that can be corrected, then they can be corrected," he noted.
