The Director for Elections and Information Technology (IT) for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Edward Omane Boamah, has said that the party is ahead of the Electoral Commission of Ghana.
According to him, the EC cannot be trusted due to the discrepancies in the execution of their duties.
Omane Boamah mentioned that the NDC planned to record serial numbers of BVD machines during the limited registration exercise. Still, the current Director of Electoral Services prevented NDC agents from doing so, not knowing they had already recorded the serial numbers.
During his address at the NDC's meeting with CSOs, he said, “We decided that during limited registration, we shall record the serial numbers of BVD kits in 2024. It was the current Director of Electoral Services, Sammy Gyamfi’s friend, who was the only Director that stopped NDC agents from recording serial numbers. But we are always ahead of them—we had already taken the serial numbers.”
He alleged that the director was promoted to the national level after the incident.
He said, “After that job, he has been promoted to National. Yes, from Ashanti Region to replace Dr. Serebour Quaicoe.”
Omane Boamah, giving examples, noted that the EC has damaged its reputation.
“Their reliability is suspect, and they have damaged their credibility by allowing BVR kits to be stolen under CCTV surveillance, military, and police protection. How can we rely on them with all these arithmetic errors we have seen? The EC is a crime scene. They cannot contest this. We cannot trust them. We know the BVD that was stolen—it took the NDC to effect the arrest of a citizen who was holding one of the BVDs,” he stated.
