The Greater Accra Regional Chairman of the NDC, Ade Coker has said that, the decision of all 10 regional chairmen to endorse former President John Mahama as the preferred candidate to lead the party to the 2020 polls is reflective of what grass root members want.

According to him, to have an already marketed brand like the former president to lead will fasten the healing process of the party

‘If I am held out with lost to an election and I feel like this person can help us win back, I will be healed and work necessarily that it is done, so it’s part of the healing process” he said.

Mr. Coker said, he is unperturbed by the fact that various groups within the party may want to pledge support for other aspirants, adding that the needs of the masses is what informed the ultimate decision to approve of Mr. Mahama.

‘As regional chairmen we were only passing on the sentiment of the people which we always do and mean you, nobody has said the other aspirants shouldn’t contest” he added.

Reacting to suggestions that their position on flagbearership as far as the 2020 elections is concerned leaves the other aspirants including Dr. Ekow Spoi Garbah and Alban Bagbin hanging, he said, if there is overwhelming evidence that people are clamoring for them, we will go and tell them”.

‘As at now, I haven’t heard of anybody in Greater Accra rooting for Alban Bagbin; he added.

All ten regional chairmen of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) on thursday, November 11th issued a communique endorsing the candidature of former president Mahama to lead the party to the 2020 general elections.

Meanwhile former NDC legislator for North Dayi, George Loh, has said that even though former President John Mahama stands taller than other presidential candidate hopeful of the party, that may not translate into victory at the primaries.

He suggests that just like Nana Akufo-Addo when the New Patriotic Party (NPP) presented him for a third time in 2016, Mahama too is known widely and may not have to be over-marketed.

Stephen Atubiga a presidential aspirant of the NDC has also called on the leadership of the party to call the ten regional chairmen to order since their current posture is a threat to the rebuilding process of the party for election 2020.

Ashanti Regional Chairman of the NPP, Benard Antwi Boasiako also added his voice to the issue. He described the endorsement president Mahama's candidature by the party's ten regional chairmen as unfortunate.
