The presidential candidate of the Progressive People’s Party (PPP) has encouraged chiefs in the country to recognise politicians as partners for development.
According to the PPP flag bearer, politicians cannot bring about development in communities if they lack the support of chiefs who are opinion leaders.
Addressing a gathering of the chief and people of Akroso in the Eastern Region, Dr. Nduom said “development can never come to a community without the support of the chief who is very influential in the community.”
“It is in this regard that I am encouraging the chiefs and people of Akroso to vote for and elect as Member of Parliament one of their own, Ofori Nyarko Daniel, who is contesting on the ticket of the PPP…,” Dr. Nduom said when he introduced the party’s aspirant to the crowd.
He also called on the people of the newly created Akroso constituency with the capital at Akroso to take advantage of the new constituency to vote for a party that can bring development to the Akroso township.
“And that party is the PPP which is seeking to enter into partnership with the local people to bring about development and make poverty a thing of the past.”
Dr. Nduom assured the people to hope for a transformation of the Akroso constituency before the December polls.
The Chief of Akroso, Nana Kwadwo Ofori II, who could not help but agree with the PPP flag bearer, also urged the people to recognise the creation of the new constituency as a time to develop the Akroso township which he said lacks development.
“We have a saying that Akroso comes after Oda, but our town is far behind in terms of development, our streets are poor, our markets are also bad and this is the time to cause a change,” Nana Kwadwo Ofori II said.
He advised the people to desist from the habit of voting for parties and their colours and instead vote for competent people to develop the community.
Recounting his personal experience of having to quit schooling upon the death of his father in 1966, the chief urged the people to see the education policy of the PPP as a wise one which seeks to make education accessible to all.
He was of the opinion he could have done much more for the community if he had had the opportunity to continue schooling.
The PPP parliamentary candidate for the Akroso constituency called on the people to vote for the party as that would help bring about jobs and end the acute poverty that has stricken the people.
“A look at the devastating state of our market complex which has remained same since time immemorial is a testimony of how we have lacked behind in terms of development…so let’s vote wisely for development,” he said.
The PPP earlier in the day stormed the Akyem Oda constituency to introduce the party’s parliamentary candidate for the constituency, Kofi Asamoah Siaw.
The Oda township came alive when thousands of supporters of the party roamed the streets of the Akyem Kotoku town of Oda to announce the presence of the PPP flag bearer.
Teeming supporters of the party lined up from the old town where Dr. Nduom had called on the chief of Oda and the Zongo chiefs to formally introduce Kofi Asamoah Siaw to them.
They finally gathered at the Market square at the Oda station where they were addressed by national and regional executives of the party who charged them to work to ensure the election of the presidential and parliamentary candidate of the PPP.
