The Member of Parliament for Nsawam-Adoagyiri, Frank Annoh-Dompreh, has called on the Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin, to maintain order in the chamber ahead of today’s proceedings.

In an interview with Multimedia on the morning of Tuesday, October 22, 2024, in a video sighted by GhanaWeb, Annoh-Dompreh, representing the New Patriotic Party (NPP) caucus, expressed optimism that Speaker Bagbin will exercise his authority to prevent any potential chaos in the chamber, particularly regarding which side will occupy the Majority seat.

According to him, the Speaker will be held accountable if disorder arises, referencing similar incidents that occurred during the start of the 8th Parliament.

“There’s a strong indication that we [NPP caucus] will also occupy [the Majority seat], so it’s up to the Speaker. Orderliness in the chamber and the precincts of Parliament is in the bosom of the Speaker. We are looking forward to seeing him exercise his power to make things proceed smoothly. If any bad thing occurs, it will be on the head of the Speaker," Annoh Dompreh warned.

“We will follow and abide by the law, and so to whom much is given, much is expected. He is the one that wields the power in terms of the leadership in the institution called Parliament, and the law gives him the power to ensure orderliness is observed, so we look forward to him to do that,” he added.

The heightened anticipation around today’s parliamentary session follows the Supreme Court’s ruling to stay the Speaker’s decision to declare four seats vacant.

Currently, the NDC caucus claims the Majority status, which is being fiercely contested by the NPP caucus, as both sides assert their right to the Majority.
