The National Women's Organizer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Dr. Hannah Louisa Bissiw-Kotey, has issued a stern warning that the party will no longer tolerate what she describes as sinister acts by the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP).
She expressed that the NDC would not respond passively to provocations, stating that the days of meeting the NPP "with the Bible for the sake of peace" are over.
In an interview on Accra 100.5 FM's Ghana Yensom morning show on Tuesday, October 22, 2024, hosted by Otafrigya Kwesi Appea-Apreku, Dr. Bissiw-Kotey accused the NPP of consistently betraying the cause of peace in Ghana's political landscape.
She referenced past incidents, including those during the 2020 general elections, where she claims the NPP used violence to their advantage while expecting the NDC to remain peaceful.
"Ghana’s democracy is suffering under the reign of the NPP," she asserted, emphasizing that the turning point came in 2020 when, according to her, the military unleashed terror on innocent voters during the elections.
Dr. Bissiw-Kotey noted that the NDC, with its revolutionary background, will not shy away from standing its ground in future elections.
She further stated that the party would not entertain any calls for peace from NPP leaders if such calls were not rooted in justice.
"There can be no peace without justice," Dr. Bissiw-Kotey said, warning that the NDC will not compromise or tolerate any actions that undermine fairness in the upcoming general elections.
In her closing remarks, she stressed that the NDC will remain vigilant and will resist any attempts by the ruling party to manipulate the electoral process or promote peace without addressing the core issue of justice.
