The National Democratic Congress presidential candidate, John Dramani Mahama, has urged Ghanaians, particularly the government, to adopt a proactive approach to addressing issues facing the country.

According to Mahama, the recent unrest in Bawku, which has escalated and resulted in the loss of several lives, could have been prevented if the government had taken a proactive approach to addressing the tensions that have worsened the conflict.

In a post on his official Facebook page on Monday, November 4, 2024, Mahama said “I have always believed that we need a proactive attitude towards peace. Had we been proactive in addressing the tensions in our midst, perhaps we would not have faced tragedies such as those in Bawku, where lives are being lost and families are being shattered.”

Mahama, who is also a former president, assured Ghanaians of his and the NDC’s commitment to upholding the country’s peace.

He reiterated his pledge to be an exemplary leader who advocates for the voiceless while fighting for justice and fairness for every citizen.

“On behalf of the National Democratic Congress, I solemnly commit to upholding the values of dialogue, respect, and justice for all. We pledge to be the voice of the voiceless and to stand alongside every Ghanaian committed to peace—a peace grounded in justice,” he added.
