Member of Parliament (MP) for Adansi Asokwa, KT Hammond, has expressed disappointment with his constituents following his recent defeat in the 2024 parliamentary elections.
According to him, the residents of his constituency refused to go out and vote, which orchestrated his defeat.
He explained that what pained him most was the fact that places where chiefs assured him of a win still did not go out to vote for him.
Speaking in an interview on Adom FM on December 9, 2024, he stated, “I’ve worked hard for this constituency, and I thought that would be appreciated at the polls. But politics is full of surprises, and it’s clear that the people wanted a change.”
“Places that cars couldn't go, I had to walk and visit them. Places that even during my youthful age I wasn’t going, I went there in my old age. So, I made sure that I covered all places and felt comfortable.”
He continued, “So, when election day came, people refused to go and vote, and I was asking them why. They said they needed money. And I was like, why would they request money when I have done roads and provided them with potable water?
“What will make you cry is places where I constructed roads, where the chiefs said they would vote for me in appreciation, but they didn’t vote. It is very sad. What pained my heart most is that they didn’t vote.”
The Electoral Commission announced that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate, Godwin Animli Dorgbadzi-Dorani, secured 14,229 of the valid votes while KT Hammond garnered 13,275 votes.
Lawyer K.T. Hammond has expressed deep concern about how unhappy he is with voters in his constituency.
