Fiifi Mensah, the Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) for the Bantama constituency in the Ashanti Region, recently discussed the party’s narrow loss in the 2020 elections during an interview on a Kumasi-based radio station.
According to Fiifi, the NPP’s internal conflicts, especially among party members vying for parliamentary seats, led to split votes, which ultimately benefitted the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
He stressed that such issues will not repeat as the NPP prepares for the 2024 elections.
“The dissatisfaction among those who lost in the primaries had a negative effect,” Fiifi explained. “But we are putting those issues behind us.”
He expressed confidence in Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s candidacy, stating, “With Dr. Bawumia leading the charge, I believe we will reclaim the majority in Parliament and win decisively.” He disclosed this on Kumasi-based Okay FM, as monitored by MyNewsGh.com.
The National Democratic Congress (NDC) holds 136 seats in Parliament, while the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has 136 seats. This balance of power has been a source of significant tension and legal disputes, particularly following the Speaker of Parliament’s declaration of four seats as vacant.
