'Why did national executive aspirants pay just GHS10k if NDC needs money?' – Spio

A flag bearer aspirant of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Ekwow Spio-Garbrah, has kicked against the GHS420,000 nomination and filing fee for flag bearer aspirants of the biggest opposition party.

All male flag bearer aspirants of the NDC are expected to cough up GHS400,000 as filing fee while their female counterparts and persons with disability will pay GHS200,000 and GHS150,000, respectively. Their nomination form is going for GHS20,000.

Expressing his reservations about the fee, the former Minister of Trade and Industries said: “If you requested for GHS10,000 for chairman aspirants of the party, based on what are you demanding GHS400,000 from flag bearer aspirants?”

In his opinion, the party should constitute a proper committee to raise funds and also explore other means of getting funding for the NDC rather than siphoning such huge amounts from flag bearer aspirants.

“This is how corruption starts and this must be checked”, Mr Spio-Garbrah told Osei Bonsu on Asempa FM’s Ekosii sen political talk show on Friday, 30 November 2018.

He also said the leadership of the party should not be sold to the highest bidder.

Mr Spio-Garbrah indicated that he has an option to file as a disabled person since he is visually-impaired.
