Why wait to be sacked when Akufo-Addo himself has left power? – NPP MP questions members

The Member of Parliament for Afigya Kwabre North, Collins Adomako-Mensah, has warned political appointees from the previous Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo government against actions that could undermine the party's restructuring efforts.

According to the lawmaker, political appointees should not wait until they are removed from their positions by the new National Democratic Congress administration when they are aware that their appointing authority is no longer in power.

In a post on Facebook, the New Patriotic Party member argued that dramatic acts of this nature could serve as a distraction to the party and hinder their efforts to rebuild.

“Why even wait to be sacked from office when you know you are a political appointee. We have a party to rebuild and recapture. We don’t need any unnecessary drama. Tune your mind and let’s get to work,” he wrote on Facebook on January 15, 2025.

Adomako-Mensah further cautioned fellow Akufo-Addo appointees against keeping state-owned assets in their possession.

He advised them to consider returning state properties in their possession, as directed by former President Akufo-Addo before leaving office, to avoid creating a narrative that might tarnish the former leader’s administration and harm his reputation.

The former Deputy Minister of Energy added, “Before He left, He instructed that all assets in your possession including official cars should be handed over before January 3, 2025. These cars are for official duties only. You are no more on official duties. Why keep the car.”

Before leaving office, Akufo-Addo issued a directive for outgoing Ministers, Deputy Ministers, Regional Ministers, and other political appointees to return all government vehicles by January 3, 2025.

The directive applied to all Ministers of State, Deputy Ministers, Regional Ministers, Special Assistants, Special Aides to the President and Vice President, and other political appointees, including those serving as Chairpersons or Members of Statutory Boards and Corporations.
