The Electoral Commission (EC) says women electoral officers have over the years been very efficient making its work during previous election easy.
According to the Greater Accra Regional Director of Elections, Alexander Akomiah when women are in charge of the electoral process, they make it simple because they are polite and meticulous.
He has therefore urged women to offer themselves as electoral officers for the upcoming November general elections.
“The women we have worked with so far are very good. What they write are very eligible and are very time-conscious. Regrettably, only few volunteer,” he said.
Mr Akomiah was speaking on the topic “Participation of women in the electoral process of 2016 general elections” at a symposium in Accra.
The programme which was under the auspices of the Tema Metropolitan Assembly’s Community Development Unit was to sensitise women on their rights and responsibilities.
Mr Akomiah noted that very shortly pre-election activities such as registration and exhibition of the voter register would commence, hence asked women to help in the registration of all eligible voters as well as report death of relatives on the register.
