Wontumi foils NDC 'Kayayie' ploy

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) is allegedly planning to inhumanely treat female porters, popularly called 'Kayayie', who operate in Kumasi.

The diabolical ploy is geared towards creating disaffection for the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Ashanti Region, a stronghold of the party.

Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly called 'Wontumi,' who uncovered the ploy, alleged that the plan was hatched during a meeting held by the NDC in Kumasi some few days ago.

Speaking on Hello FM, he said the NDC meeting took place at the Regional Coordinating Council (RCC), adding that the First Lady Lordina Mahama, who traveled to Kumasi on Friday, was in attendance.

'The First Lady, Lordina Mahama was present at the meeting when the NDC came out with a plan to create disaffection for the porters,' he told King Edward, host of the show.

Several female porters, most of whom had attained the voting age of 18 years, usually migrate from the northern parts of the country to Kumasi for greener pastures.

According to Wontumi, per the ploy, some NDC members would henceforth dress in NPP colours and verbally attack the porters in the city to develop hatred for the NPP.

'The NDC members will dress in NPP colours and ask the porters to leave Kumasi to their respective hometowns since they are not welcomed in Kumasi,' he claimed.

The NPP chairman said his source at the meeting divulged the sensitive information to him after the NDC meeting.

The NDC believes that the 2016 polls is just around the corner so such a dirty plan could deny the NPP potential votes from the female porters, who are struggling to survive under the incompetent NDC administration.

The NDC are afraid that the porters would vote massively for Nana Akufo-Addo and the NPP in next year's general elections, hence the fiendish plan to create enmity between the NPP and the porters, Wontumi said.

He, therefore, urged the female porters in Kumasi not to fall for the NDC's nefarious plan, insisting that the NPP in the Ashanti region feels proud to have the female porters in their midst, saying 'we are one people.'

The NPP chairman also charged his party's members to be vigilant and report anybody that would use the NPP's name to insult or harass the porters for the police to arrest them.
