Yapei-Kusuwgu: NPP secretary behind bars?

NPP secretary Amadu Zakaria NPP secretary Amadu Zakaria

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) secretary for the Yapei Kusawgu constituency Amadu Zakaria is under lock and key following a violence that broke Sunday between supporters of the NPP and NDC in the ongoing Limited Voters Registration exercise.

The Mpahar police in the Central Gonja district of the Northern region is holding Zakaria for allegedly obstructing the process and assaulting one Mohammed - a member of the NDC and close associate of the deputy Energy minister and NDC parliamentary candidate for the area, John Jinapor.

Starr News gathered the incident was as a result of the NPP’s protest against some "strange" people believed to have been bused from Kumasi to be registered at the Kpabuso D/A Primary registration centre.

The protest angered supporters of the National Democratic Congress, who also mounted counter agitation which resulted in physical attack and a free for all fight.

The NPP secretary before being picked up accused Jinapor and the NDC of transporting people from different regions to register in the constituency.

“The deputy minister for Energy and the NDC parliamentary candidate initiated the policy where they brought people in a 207 bus from Kumasi who are not natives to come and register," Zakaria told Starr News.

“So when they came I called the organizer, Mohammed and told him that these people they brought don't belong here so they should send them where they belong that was all and he tried to push me and I resisted.”

The confusion which lasted for hours halted the registration process until the police arrived to restore law and order and subsequently arrested Zakaria.
