A Youth for Mahama (YFM), a network of youth groups supporting the candidature of President John Dramani Mahama for the December presidential election, has been launched.
According to the leadership of the group, which was outdoored in Accra yesterday, President Mahama is the most credible candidate to manage the affairs of the nation and also seek the welfare of the youth.
“As a group, we believe that President Mahama is the only candidate amongst the many seeking to occupy the high office of President who can see it as an obligation to be responsible and accountable to us the youth,” said Serlom Amevor, Chief Spokesman for YFM.
He said the group was very confident of the NDC winning the upcoming elections, and called on the youths of the country to rally behind President Mahama to offer his a resounding victory.
“As long as we remain as a group committed to the common goal of having a president who is youthful and especially in though and personality, we will work with all our God given resources in ensuring that President Mahama is sworn in as President come January 7, 2013,” he stressed.
He said the network decided to back President Mahama because of his vast experience and track record in promoting job creation and youth development projects across the country, in addition to his exemplary performance as Vice President under the late President Mills.
Explaining the objective of forming the group, he noted that YFM is a nationwide network of progressive, result oriented youth organisations, responding to the urgent call for the active participation of the youth in shaping and constructing the socio-economic development agenda of the nation.
He urged the youth not to allow themselves to be misused by politicians to cause violence during the elections.
“Let us all as youths use our energy to work and ensure that we elect a leader who has the track record of seeking our interest,” he told the well attended launching ceremony held at the Nima Social Centre.
As part of the ceremony which was characterised by singing of patriotic songs, a new youth song, rallying support for President Mahama, was introduced. The Chairman for the occasion Mr. Delali Brempong in his remarks urged the youth to work hard to ensure that His Excellency John Dramani Maham wins the 2012 elections. According to him, the current world leadership has shifted to the younger generation and it was necessary for Ghana to follow suit by voting for a president who has displayed beyond measure that he is committed to youth development.
