Zongo Chief congratulates President Mahama, Ghanaians for peaceful elections

The Sarikyi of the Zongo community of Saltpond, Mamah Nomabu V, has congratulated President John Dramani Mahama for winning the December 7 presidential election.

Sarikyi Nomabu, known in private life as Ben Ahmed Mahmood, Assistant Chief Pharmacy Technician of Ankaful Psychiatric Hospital, commended the Ghanaian electorate, especially Zongo youth, for conducting peaceful, free and fair elections.

Speaking to the Ghana News Agency at Saltpond, the Chief said the peaceful manner the election was conducted affirmed the nation’s credential as the beacon of democracy in Africa.

He appealed to Ghanaians to desist from activities which could land the nation into post-election violence.

Sarikyi Nomabu congratulated the parliamentarians-elect and urged them to place development of their constituencies above their personal interests.

He said they should see traditional rulers as partners in development and cooperate with them to improve the conditions of their constituents.

Sarikyi Nomabu appealed to the President to be a father to all to enable people who did not belong to his party to contribute to the development of the nation.

He said he was pleased that the youth in Zongo communities did not allow politicians to use them to cause violence during the elections and urged them not to do anything untoward after the election.
