Zongo chiefs urged to resist politicization of their association

The Vice President, Dr Mahamadu Bawumia has advised members of the National Association of Zongo Chiefs to resist any attempt to politicize their association.

He explained that this was necessary if the association is to continue to contribute towards the development of their communities.

This was contained in the speech read on his behalf at the Fifth Annual National Conference of the National Association of Zongo Chiefs at Koforidua.

He called on people in the inner cities and the Zongos to take full advantage of the various interventions which have been initiated by the government for the Zongos and the inner cities.

Dr Bawumia advised the Zongo chiefs to work closely with the Ministry of Inner Cities and Zongo Development and other stakeholders to achieve the socio-economic transformation of the inner cities and the Zongos.

He explained that the aim for the introduction of the various interventions was to enable the Zongos and the inner cities to develop resilience and avoid the looming disaster associated with the continuous deterioration and decay of structures and the few facilities at the Zongos and the inner cities.

Ms Comfort Asante, the New Juaben Municipal Chief Executive, called on parents in the Zongos to send their children to school.

She appealed to the youth of the Zongos to take full advantage of the free Senior High School policy and attend school.

Alhaji Sultan Umar Farouk Saeed, Ashanti Regional Paramount Zongo chief, called on government to pay monthly allowances to Paramount Zongo chiefs.

He called for appointment of more people to political positions and to serve on public boards and corporations.

Alhaji Sultan Saeed appealed to the President of National House of Chiefs to appoint at least two regional paramount zongo chiefs to the various regional House of Chiefs in the country.

Alhaji Mawude Dende Maza Wage, Paramount Zongo Chief of Cape Coast, called on the managers of the Zongo Development Fund to ensure that the fund makes a positive impact on the Zongo communities.

He urged the Zongo chiefs to encourage the people of the Zongos to give high priority to education.
