Professor Kingsley Nyarko, Member of Parliament (MP) for Kwadaso, has called on President John Dramani Mahama, to reverse his decision to revoke the appointments of individuals recruited into public service by the previous government.

According to him, the decision by the president, through the chief of staff, Julius Debrah, was not only troubling, but very unfortunate, saying that “President Mahama, throughout the electioneering campaign promised to create jobs for the citizenry, especially the youth, but not dismissals”.

Prof. Nyarko, speaking to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in an interview in Kumasi, pointed out that, all the innovative interventions introduced by the Nana Addo-Bawumia administration helped in creating jobs to deal with the unemployment situation that had gotten out of hand between January 2009 and January 2017.

“Within that period, the government did less to provide jobs for the citizenry, particularly the youth.

This led to the formation of the Unemployed Graduate Association of Ghana,” he noted.

From January 2017 to January 2025, the MP noted that the past government, through NABCO, the creation of additional districts, and regions, the reintroduction of the Ghana card leading to the establishment of offices in every district, the national ambulance service, the medical drone delivery system, the one district one factory, the planting for food and jobs, and many others, contributed in providing jobs for the people.

“Although more work has to be done to ensure that more jobs are created to cater to those who are still without jobs, it becomes unconscionable for the Mahama administration to dismiss persons who have legitimately been employed by a government whose duty is to seek their welfare and wellbeing.”

The MP suggested to the President to rescind his decision, halt the wrongful and illegal dismissals and allow the people to go back to work.
