BMW Club Ghana, the country’s leading car club, has donated 50 high-density student mattresses, 5 TV sets, toiletries, sanitary pads, soaps, water, and tissues, as well as lunch for over 250 inmates in the female and male wards of the Ghana Prisons in Akuse, in the Eastern Region.
The donation, which took place over the weekend, fulfills a promise made to the correctional institution after an earlier visit to assess their needs. Members of the club also spent the afternoon engaging with inmates and prison officials to further understand their needs and used the opportunity to lift their spirits with messages of hope.
During the presentation, the President of BMW Club Ghana, Kwesi Crabbe, said: "We want our donations to serve as encouragement to the inmates and to reassure them that they haven’t been neglected, we love them regardless of being confined in their reformation process. We believe in initiatives that also serve to promote human growth and development through our corporate social responsibility (CSR) programmes while complementing the efforts of the government."
He added, "We know we are far from the ideal situation, but this should serve as an important start in what we are trying to do for humanity. We want to appreciate the Ghana Prisons Service for the wonderful work you are doing for these inmates as you prepare them to integrate effortlessly back into society."
Receiving the items on behalf of the Ghana Prisons Akuse, Superintendent Issifu Adudallah expressed deep gratitude, saying, "We greatly appreciate the gesture and the fact that you have honoured your promise. Your donations will indeed touch the hearts of our inmates and go a long way towards supporting the government’s efforts in running the facility. The mattresses will provide some comfort during sleep, while the TV sets will keep the inmates informed about the outside world."
Superintendent Adudallah also used the opportunity to ask for more support in helping inmates learn some vocational skills before leaving the facilities and assistance in obtaining medicine for the sickbay.
Besides promoting auto sports and fostering networking opportunities, the car club is equally dedicated to contributing to sustainable initiatives across Ghana. The club has previously donated to various orphanages across the country and was pivotal during the pandemic by donating medical supplies to various hospitals and celebrating health workers.
This generous donation highlights BMW Club Ghana's dedication to community support and development, reflecting their broader mission to not only promote the BMW brand but also contribute positively to society.
