Ghana UN Association commends citizens on uniting to fight Coronavirus

Samuel Ojo Bamidele, Youth Affairs Secretary for Ghana United Nations Association Samuel Ojo Bamidele, Youth Affairs Secretary for Ghana United Nations Association

The Ghana United Nations Association (GUNA) has commended Ghanaians for uniting to fight the current outbreak of COVID-19 in the country.

The association in a statement signed by its Youth Affairs Secretary, Comrade Samuel Ojo Bamidele also commended government for taking a “difficult decision” to close all of its entry points and issuing stringent directives to further ensure that COVID-19 was fought to the end.

“It is a difficult decision for the Government of Ghana (GoG) to take by ensuring that all of its entry points were closed and issued stringent directives to further ensure that COVID-19 was fought to the end,” Comrade Samuel Ojo Bamidele noted in the statement, adding that government needs to be commended and supported as the coronavirus is battled to the letter.

While GUNA said it seconds government’s decision to suspend all gatherings in a bid to ensure that Ghana comes to record a zero COVID-19, the group expresses its optimism of the country registering a zero COVID-19 at the shortest possible if the public would adhere to the directives by the President and health professionals.

The statement, however, admonishes those unfairly cashing in on the situation through hiking the prices of various products including COVID-19 prevention items and foodstuffs to “rethink of their unpatriotic attitude towards their own [sic] Ghanaians who need these items to keep body and soul alive in these trying moments.”

Meanwhile, government and various state agencies, the statement added, must ensure that it continues with the various exercises such as the fumigation and disinfection of markets undertaken to rid the country of the coronavirus threat as part of efforts to ultimately realise the President's vision of making Ghana a clean country.

Comrade Samuel Ojo Bamidele through the statement entreated the citizenry to continue observing the health bits from the experts and if possible, stay at home in case one has no serious business in town.

*PRESS RELEASE BY GUNA COMMENDING GHANA FOR ITS UNITY TO FIGHT COVID-19* The Ghana United Nations Association (GUNA) wishes to doff its hat to the people of Ghana for uniting to fight the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic which has virtually brought the world's economy to its knees.

It is a difficult decision for the Government of Ghana (GoG) to take by ensuring that all of its entry points were closed and issued stringent directives to further ensure that COVID-19 was fought to the end; it needs to be commended and supported as the coronavirus is battled to the letter.

We at GUNA, further, second the GoG's suspension of all gatherings in a bid to ensure that Ghana comes to record a zero COVID-19.

The target of registering a zero COVID-19 at the shortest possible time is highly achievable should all endeavour to adhere to the directives by the President and health professionals.

As we put all hands on deck to return the economy to its potency as soon as possible, GUNA would implore all those madly cashing in on the sale of hand sanitizers and food stuffs to rethink of their unpatriotic attitude towards their own Ghanaians who need these items to keep body and soul alive in these trying moments.

In our view, this is not the way to make abnormal profit especially when the entire country is on its knees as a result of the pandemic.

Going forward, the aftermath of the pandemic should teach us all a lesson because today, about 90 percent of Ghanaians have taken hand washing very seriously.

The fumigation and disinfection of the markets should be a quarterly event.

Besides, the national seriousness that was attached to the temporary closure of the markets and businesses for the fumigation and disinfection must be adopted for the monthly national clean up exercise to ultimately realise the President's vision of making Ghana a clean country.

We at GUNA can say that the tragic coronavirus has positively affected the ill attitudes of the citizenry who, hitherto, disrespected their personal hygiene and cleanliness.

As we all pray that there comes an end to this pandemic soon, GUNA would continue to entreat the citizenry to continue adhering to all the health bits from the experts and if possible, stay at home in case one has no serious business in town.

Surely, Ghana shall overcome this coronavirus pandemic and we pray it is soon.
