IPPG thanks Akufo-Addo for swift action on the suspension of energy export to neighbouring countries

Dr. Elikplim Kwabla Apetorgbor Dr. Elikplim Kwabla Apetorgbor

1. It would be recalled that about a fortnight ago, l, on behalf of the Chamber of Independent Power Generators, Ghana, took on the VRA as being culprits in the power outages the country currently experiences because they give priority to power export to our neighbouring countries - SONABEL in Burkina Faso and CEB in Togo and Benin;

2. As should be expected, the VRA issued a prompt statement debunking my assertion even though what I said was nothing but the truth;

3. We are gladdened that H.E the President is reported by the Chairman of Parliament's Committee on Energy, Hon. Atta Akyea, who doubles as the MP for Abuakwa South, as having ordered the VRA to suspend electricity export to our neighbours;

4. This action would go a long way in providing some respite and stability to the domestic market by increasing supply, even though it may not solve the power supply challenge entirely;

5. It is thus important and appropriate to commend H.E the President of the Republic for prioritizing the domestic market which is the right thing to do at this critical moment;

6. As we commend HE the President of the Republic for the intervention, we equally commend the media, Parliament and the public for taking a keen interest in the issue;

7. The VRA equally deserves our commendation for obeying the directive of H.E the President and putting the national interest first.
Thank you.
