The MTN Ghana Foundation is calling for applications from students pursuing undergraduate degrees and vocational or technical skills training in any of the public tertiary institutions in Ghana for its Bright Scholarship programme for the 2024/2025 academic year. Applicants have up until 31st May 2024 to submit their applications.

To be eligible for selection, applicants must be Ghanaian, without a criminal record or be of good conduct, and have excellent academic results. The MTN Ghana Foundation will award 200 scholarships for the 2024/2025 academic year. Eligible applicants may apply only through the web portal scholarship.mtn.com.gh. No hardcopy applications will be accepted.

The scholarship award is free, and under no circumstances will MTN Foundation request payment for the submission, processing, or selection of applicants. Any payment request must therefore immediately be reported to the specified media contacts or the MTN Foundation.

The MTN Bright Scholarship seeks to ease the financial burden on students by catering for the cost of tuition, and accommodation, providing a stipend for books and a laptop for the beneficiaries. Commenting on the Scholarship, Adwoa Wiafe, Chief Corporate Services and Sustainability Officer for MTN Ghana emphasized its benefits and the immense impact that it has made over the years in the lives of its beneficiaries.

She said, "The increasing cost of tertiary education in Ghana is a major challenge for many low-income parents and an obstacle to quality education for brilliant students in need. The MTN Ghana Foundation's scholarship program makes a real difference by empowering beneficiaries to achieve their educational aspirations and giving them a better chance of fulfilling their potential."

The commencement of the MTN Bright Scholarship in 2018 was in fulfillment of a commitment MTN made to Ghanaians during the commemoration of its 20th Anniversary in 2016. During the celebrations, MTN, through the MTN Ghana Foundation, promised to award a total of 300 scholarships over three years.

Considering the significant impact that the Scholarship made in the lives of the beneficiaries after the first three years, the MTN Ghana Foundation decided to renew the scholarship programme in 2021 during MTN’s 25th Anniversary celebration.

The MTN Ghana Foundation has over 15 years awarded over 1000 scholarships to students from basic school to the tertiary level. Aside from the Bright Scholarship, MTN Ghana Foundation launched the Teacher Improvement Award Programme in 2015 to financially assist teachers in public schools who wish to upgrade their education to the graduate or postgraduate levels.
