The staff of Stanbic Bank Ghana, a member of the Standard Bank Group, Africa’s largest bank by assets, has presented a cheque of GHS 200,000 and used clothing to the Ghana Red Cross Society in support of victims of the recent Akosombo and Kpong Dams spillage.

The items were presented at the Headquarters of the Ghana Red Cross Society in Accra.

The relief items will be distributed in the areas affected by the dam spillage. The cash donation is to be used to purchase food, water, sanitary and medical items.

Head of Brand and Marketing at Stanbic Bank Ghana, Mawuko Afadzinu led the Stanbic delegation and shared that the donation fell directly in line with the bank's overall mission to drive national growth. He said, “At Stanbic Bank, we always say that Ghana is our home and we drive her growth.

The greatest impediment to driving growth and progress is when there is an unprecedented disaster that affects the lives of citizens. This donation is a response to the unfortunate occurrence that has happened in the Volta region. This is the first presentation and we will return with more.

The cash donation of GHS200,000 will be used to procure specific items for the affected citizens. We are mindful that there are levels of vulnerability and therefore we are happy to partner with the Red Cross to ensure that the items reach the right people at the right time.”

“We believe that all victims need support, and we are glad to partner with an organization like the Red Cross to assist these people with the resources they need to recover even in the area of their health. The cash donation will be used to provide food, water, sanitary items, and even medicinal items. We look forward to working with the Red Cross to see the impact that our donation has made and provide even more assistance where possible”, he added.

Mr. Kwame Gyimah-Akwafo, President of the Ghana Red Cross Society, received the cheque and thanked the bank for the generous donation saying, “We thank you sincerely on behalf of the Ghana Red Cross Society. It is very reassuring that even in these difficult financial times we can still find that spirit of humanitarianism among cooperating bodies.

We can only reach out to the vulnerable when we receive support from groups like Stanbic Bank. We will ensure that the intended beneficiaries of these items receive them on time. I want to encourage the general public to take an example from this donation and let us all come together as a nation to help our affected brothers and sisters.”
